Samburu
National Reserve
Today you set your sights on Samburu National Reserve, located in the
semi-arid northern frontier of Kenya. Samburu, located along the banks of the
Ewaso Nyiro River, is much less traveled than many of the other Kenyan Parks.
The Ewaso is a permanent river, and the area boasts a wide variety of animals
rarely found elsewhere--Grevy's Zebra, reticulated giraffe, Somali ostrich,
gerenuk, for example. You also have the chance to see lion, leopard, elephant,
buffalo, Guenthers dik-dik, and crocodiles along the river banks, among many
other species or wild animals. Bird enthusiasts will be happy to learn that
it is possible to spot as many as one hundred species of birds in a single
day. Samburu is named after the colorful local tribe who dye their hair with
ochre--the same color as the soil found in the land. Today you will spend most
of your afternoon on safari. ? Deluxe Tented Camp or Wildlife Lodge

Masai Mara National Reserve
After breakfast you are transferred to the airport where you board a plane
which takes you on a spectacular flight over the renowned Great Rift Valley
to the Masai Mara National Reserve. Masai Mara, dotted with acacia trees in
vast savanna grassland with rolling
hills, is located on the Kenyan side of the Serengeti Plain. This is safari
land at its most
grand and you will be stunned by the number of wild animals you will see. It
is here that we may witness one of the greatest spectacles in nature-the "annual
migration" where over one million animals cross into Masai Mara from the
adjacent Serengeti. The Mara is well-known for its great herds of plain's game,
black manned lion, leopard, cheetah, and elephant, as well as virtually every
other kind of animal found in Kenya. Culturally, the Reserve is extraordinary
because of the proud and colorful Masai who inhabit the area. An afternoon
game drive is planned for today. Highlights during your time here include phenomenal
game viewing and a walk along the banks of the Mara River where hippos and
crocodiles are often seen in great numbers. ? Deluxe Tented Camp

Arusha to Tarangire National Park
After breakfast drive to Tarangire and spend the day game viewing along
the course of the Tarangire River. The area is famous for its magnificent baobab
trees which dot the rolling hills; the park is one of the most beautiful in
Tanzania, and it is second only to Ngorongoro in its density of Tanzanian wildlife.
There are large herds of elephant that inhabit the region, especially in the
dry season (July-September) and there is a host of other animals including
lion, giraffe, impala, gazelle, waterbuck buffalo, zebra, which can often be
seen in abundance.

Manyara to Ngorongoro Crater
Proceed to the famed Ngorongoro Crater. Ngorongoro, an extinct volcano which
has been referred to as the eighth wonder of the world and the Garden of Eden.
Ngorongoro towers above the Northern Serengeti Plain and it is celebrated as
containing some of the most magnificent scenery in the world; its 105 square
mile crater is the largest unbroken crater on Earth and is packed with just
about every species of wildlife found in East Africa. Arrive at Ngorongoro
in time for an early afternoon game drive. Spend the rest of the day inside
the crater. The drive from the rim down winding dirt tracks brings you to Africa's
largest permanent concentrations of wildlife. Some 25,000 animals live on the
crater floor and, because the grasses are short, game is easily spotted and
can often be approached quite closely. It is also one of the few parks in Africa
that rhinos are relatively easy to locate.
